Attention designers and artists: Springfield needs you for it’s next “The Simpsons”-inspired hockey jersey.
The Springfield Thunderbirds are bringing back the Springfield Ice-O-Topes once again, the “Simpsons”-inspired themed jerseys that were a hit during the 2019-20 season. But this time, the team is calling out to fans to create the new look with their Ice-O-Topes Jersey Design Contest, presented by MassLive.
The contest to open to all fans of all artistic levels. Whichever design wins will become an official Thunderbirds jersey that will be worn during a game on Feb. 12, 2022. Additionally, the winning design will receive a custom jersey of their design plus a prize pack.
Here’s how it works: Fans can download the design templates materials from the Thunderbirds website. Then, once they’ve crafted their own design, they can submit it via MassLive, email it to [email protected] or mail it to them directly at 45 Bruce Landon Way, Springfield, MA 01103.
See the contest page for full instructions and contest guidelines. The deadline to submit a design is Aug. 1 at 5 p.m.
The Springfield Ice-O-Topes premiered as part of “What If?” night for the Thunderbirds, who took the ice with an alternate name and jersey inspired by “The Simpsons” and the show’s own sports team, the Springfield Isotopes. The Ice-O-Topes did not take the ice in 2020-21 since the Thunderbirds opted out of the AHL season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Here’s more info on the contest:
The Thunderbirds will return to the ice for the 2021-22 season on Oct. 16 at the MassMutual Center.
