GRCSU offers summer esports program | Local News

PROCTOR — A new summer program aims to use video games to teach students about computer technology and foster meaningful social connections.

The Greater Rutland County Supervisory Union is offering an Esports Summer Enrichment Program to all students entering grades 9-12 in the fall. GRSCU schools include Proctor High School, West Rutland High School and Poultney High School.

Proctor High School science teacher Alena Wehof will oversee the program along with GRSCU Chief Technology Officer Gregory Connors.

RIT graduates its first doctoral student in new electrical and computer engineering program

Dimitris Chachlakis became the first student to be awarded the new Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering this May from Rochester Institute of Technology.

The new degree, recently approved by the New York State Department of Education, builds upon the Ph.D. in engineering, a multi-disciplinary degree established several years ago, and since then refined into three distinct programs. Chachlakis transitioned into the new degree program and focused studies on the trending area of multi-modal tensor data analytics and machine learning.

State program could reimburse storm shelter construction

The City of Pratt and Pratt County have been included in many tornado watches in the past 20 years but is has been at least that long since a tornado actually threatened the rural population center. Pratt County Emergency Management Director Tim Branscom is just a bit worried that people might not be aware they need an emergency plan in place should such a danger become a reality.
