(TNS) — Dictated by the peaks and dips of Western Pennsylvania’s rolling landscape, Internet service is often spotty — even nonexistent — for thousands of people based on topography and a lack of infrastructure for high-speed Internet services.

But an ambitious project by billionaire Elon Musk promises lofty goals for those struggling with broadband inequities, which have been highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic as school and work largely moved online.

XPrize details Elon Musk’s $100M prize to fight climate change

Last month, Tesla Motors and SpaceX CEO and richest person in the world Elon Musk announced he’d put a small percentage of his billions toward “a prize for best carbon capture technology.”  On Monday, XPrize announced the broad outline of the competition.

Amazon responds to Elon Musk’s accusations of impeding SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet plans

  • Amazon’s satellite internet project on Thursday clarified its position in response to recent accusations from Elon Musk and SpaceX that Jeff Bezos’ company is attempting to “stifle competition” in the sector.
  • SpaceX’s Starlink and Amazon’s Kuiper are working to build space-based internet networks by launching thousands of satellites into orbit.
