Bucco: Use federal funds to upgrade New Jersey’s antiquated computer systems | New Jersey

(The Center Square) – As New Jersey officials ponder how to spend $6.3 billion in federal relief money, state Sen. Anthony Bucco, R-Boonton, wants the state to fund an IT modernization project to upgrade its unemployment and motor vehicle computer systems.

“The people of New Jersey suffered during the pandemic because our computer systems are woefully antiquated,” Bucco said in a news release.

Senate Budget & Appropriations Committee Republicans have proposed spending $500 million to modernize state computer systems, including those that handle the unemployment, Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) and 911 systems.

New Federal Program Promises Cheaper Internet Bills, But You Need To Act Fast

Eligible households can apply for the Emergency Broadband Benefit, but the program ends once it runs out of money.

Charter, Frontier, and WOW! are participating.

The program is open to people with a household income up to 135% of federal poverty guidelines (for a family of four, that’s about $36,000 a year). It’s also available to people who suffered “substantial loss of income” during the pandemic.

Recipients of Medicaid, SNAP, Pell Grants, and free or reduced-priced school lunches can sign up, too.

3 BIPOC-owned small businesses in Federal Way receive marketing, technology grants

Three Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC)-owned small businesses in Federal Way were recently awarded grants from the Comcast RISE program.

Anfa Childcare, Chebogz Filipino Food Truck and KD Communications in Federal Way are among 69 BIPOC-owned small businesses awarded technology or marketing resources. Since the program’s inception, approximately 100 Washington businesses have been selected as grant awardees.

Both Anfa Childcare and KD Communications were awarded free marketing services from Effectv, the advertising sales division of Comcast Cable, including a TV media campaign to run over a 90-day period.

Federal program offers $50 a month off internet bill, how to see if you’re eligible

Millions of Americans can now apply for federal assistance to help pay their monthly internet bill as part of a $3.2 billion pandemic relief program, according to the Associated Press. The Emergency Broadband Benefit was part of the $900 billion pandemic relief package passed in December which included money for expansion of broadband service and assistance in keeping families connected to the internet.

Defendant in Scheme to Steal Digital Currency and Social Media Accounts Pleads Guilty and is Sentenced to Two Years in Federal Prison | USAO-MD

Baltimore, Maryland – Chief U.S. District Judge James K. Bredar sentenced Jordan K. Milleson, age 20, of Timonium, Maryland, to two years in federal prison, followed by one year of supervised release, for aggravated identity theft, in connecting with schemes to use the identity information of victims to  steal digital currency and social media accounts.  Milleson entered his guilty plea today.  Chief Judge Bredar also ordered Milleson to pay restitution of $34,329.01.
